I must admit, however, there is one thing about entertaining that I don’t enjoy much at all…
The cleaning!
It seems that no matter how well prepared I THINK I am for my holiday shin dig, I always end up scrambling to do some last minute tidying up in the few minutes before my guest come! Aside from deep cleaning the house and then locking each and every family member (pets included) in a cage until my company arrives… that’s the only way I’ve found to have my home in tip top condition at that exact moment when the company walks through the door.
Since I’m not sure the whole cage thing is very ethical, let alone legal, I’ve had to find some ways to cut time when it comes to last minute cleaning. I have a Birthday party coming up, and I’m the host. After all the holidays we’ve celebrated recently my house is torn apart!
The kitchen and the bathroom are usually my top two focuses when it comes to cleaning. While other areas of the house may become a bit messy to the eyes, I know these two areas are where the real icky unseen germs like to lurk and hide.
Since I’m usually cooking and preparing for company in the kitchen, it’s easy to keep this area tidy as I go along. The guest bathroom, however, is a different story since I rarely use that one. I always remember last minute, and find myself making a mad dash to clean it before the door bell rings!
Scrubbing Bubbles® conducted a study and found that sixty 60 percent of people flush the toilet with the seat up, allowing toilet bacteria to spray out and cover everything in a fine layer of filth. We’ve always had a rule that the lid must be down when you flush and now I’m glad we do! - Hang a shoe organizer over the inside of your closet to store your bottles of cleaner in for quick, easy access.
- Wrinkled clothes? Toss a few ice cubes in the dryer with your wrinkled clothes and dry for five minutes. They will come out wrinkle free.
- Every morning start a load of dishes and a load of laundry. It will save your sanity later.
- Take three time outs a day to tidy for just 10 minutes and at the end of the day you will have spent 30 minutes tidying your house which will lead to a cleaner house.
- Employ my anti-folding laundry system to get your laundry put away in 10 minutes or less.
